Why I Don’t Take Yoga Selfies

Yoga selfies are taking over the world. At least, the social media world. Every time I’m scrawling through Instagram it’s all svelte looking girls in bikinis, or toned, shirtless guys, holding themselves in fantastic looking yoga poses and gathering thousands of likes from yogi-wannabes everywhere.

As a yoga teacher, there’s an expectation that I should be doing the same. Not just from my fellow teachers, but from yoga studios too – I’ve even heard stories of studios asking potential instructors how many Instagram followers they have because otherwise, “What are you going to bring to our studio? Dreams Manifesting into Reality: The Birth of My Yoga Studio and Sacred Earth Sanctuary

Sacred Earth SanctuaryYesterday I posted on Facebook to officially announce the opening of my yoga studio on November 1st. WOW. I actually can’t believe that it’s happening!! Even writing it, it didn’t seem real.

It’s like when you book flights to somewhere you’ve always wanted to go, but it doesn’t feel real until the moment you board the flight. And even then sometimes it’s not until you land in some amazing destination that it really kicks in.

I think that’s what this is going to feel like. Read the rest of this post »

The Eco-Build, the Big Plans and the Move to Mandurah

The Eco-Build, the Big Plans and the Move to MandurahYou may have noticed I’ve been a little quiet lately. I haven’t been writing as much, and believe me when I say that I’ve missed it! So let me fill you in what’s been happening to keep me away for so long.

Remember that piece of land I mentioned in my goals updates throughout the year? That beautiful hectare the hubby and I have been ever-so-slowly building on so that we could eventually live there one day? It’s ready.

Sort of. Read the rest of this post »

Mid-Year Goals Update – New Directions, Expanding Desires

Mid-Year Goals Update – New Directions, Expanding DesiresBack in January I wrote a blog about my goals for the coming year, and in the last couple of weeks I’ve felt this desire to revisit it. We’re over halfway through the year now (can you believe it?) and so much has happened! Things that I didn’t see coming, things I didn’t expect, and things that I only ever dreamed about too. I guess that’s life right??

I do think it’s important to make goals, and it’s just as important to look back and see what you once aimed for. Read the rest of this post »

Diets, Body Image and Divine Femininity

Diets, Body Image and Divine FemininityYesterday was a momentous day for me. It was the day of the You & Your Wellbeing workshop, and it was hands down the most incredible day I’ve had the blessing to be part of. 50 women in one room, oh man! You know what it’s like with that many women in one space? The energy was electric!

And, the energy was positive. Open, welcoming, loving, genuine. These are feelings that women do best, yes??

So for four hours (we ran over by a whole hour and no one minded!) we did yoga, listened to inspirational talks, talked about – and ate – great food, and meditated. Read the rest of this post »

Getting Some Perspective and History Lessons in Nepal – Part 2

Getting Some Perspective and History Lessons in Nepal – Part 2Welcome back to my Nepali adventure! If you haven’t read Part 1, then hightail it over there and check that out first, then come back and get into Part 2 below (it will make more sense that way!).

So where did we leave off last week..?? Oh yes, that’s right. I was in Lumbini. And I was feeling pretty disheartened by the selfies and selfishness I’d experienced at the birthplace of Buddha. But there was something that brightened my time there – the food! Read the rest of this post »

My Goals, Dreams and Desires for 2015

New Year 2015It might be almost two weeks’ late but… Happy New Year!! I personally love the new year. I love the ritual of shutting the door on the year before, and opening the door on the new possibilities of the year ahead. It’s not like anything actually happens, the sun rises just like every other day, but yet it brings so much hope and optimism and inspiration to people the world over.

It makes you feel like you have a clean slate, you can make a fresh start, and anything that happened before is wiped away. Read the rest of this post »

Becoming a Yoga Teacher and a Believer in Humanity

Becoming a Yoga Teacher and a Believer in HumanityI was actually a bit hesitant about writing this blog because in all honesty, it’s difficult to find the right words to describe just how magical my time in Bali was! It’s not very often that you find yourself surrounded by like-minded people, accepting, non-judging, supportive and full of love and gratitude. I don’t think I’ve ever experienced anything like it before, and if I ever experience again then I will call myself a very blessed individual!

Of course, day one I was pretty nervous. Read the rest of this post »

About Following Your Heart

About Following Your HeartHello from Bali! Or more specifically, Ubud – mecca for yogis and nature lovers alike. And for me, being both of those, it’s pretty much paradise. If you don’t follow me on Facebook then you might be wondering why I’m here, so let me give you a bit of a breakdown of what’s happening at the moment.

I’ve basically taken a three-week hiatus from my normal life to immerse myself in all things yoga. To live, breathe, eat and sleep my yoga teacher training. Read the rest of this post »

Getting Really, Really Clear On Your Goals

Getting Really, Really Clear On Your GoalsIt’s time to get really clear on your goals. When it comes to our health, sometimes we think we know what our goal is, but we’re actually looking at it from completely the wrong angle. So then what happens? We don’t reach our goals! Because we don’t really know what they are!

It’s all about understanding your true motives, and your underlying desire, for wanting the thing that you want.

I was thinking about this today when a good friend asked me why I was heading off to do my yoga teacher training. Read the rest of this post »
